GoogleApps for Education Domain Question
A school district in Texas had this question…
We have a question on creating a subdomain for gmail for students. we are having difficulty figuring that out. Do i need to set up an alias in godaddy, where we registered our domain, or do we need to purchase a new domain for students through godaddy, like @students.districtname.org and our teacher would be @districtname.org?
A responsive GoogleApps for Education staffer wrote back:
No need to purchase a domain if they’re using a subdomain. Assuming they have district.edu registered in Google Apps, they’d:
- Go to Domain Settings > Domain Names
- Add students.district.edu as an alternate domain
- Follow the instructions to verify the domain (there should be custom instructions for GoDaddy)
That’s the kind of specificity that’s great to get in a response!
