GoogleApps for Education Domain Question

EdTech

A school district in Texas had this question…

We have a question on creating a subdomain for gmail for students.  we are having difficulty figuring that out.  Do i need to set up an alias in godaddy, where we registered our domain, or do we need to purchase a new domain for students through godaddy, like @students.districtname.org  and our teacher would be @districtname.org?

A responsive GoogleApps for Education staffer wrote back:

No need to purchase a domain if they’re using a subdomain.  Assuming they have district.edu registered in Google Apps, they’d:

  1. Go to Domain Settings > Domain Names
  2. Add students.district.edu as an alternate domain
  3. Follow the instructions to verify the domain (there should be custom instructions for GoDaddy)

That’s the kind of specificity that’s great to get in a response!
