Installing UbuntuLinux on Dell Latitude e6410 - Blank Screen

EdTech

When I tried to install Ubuntu Linux 10.04 Lucid Lynx on a Dell Latitude e6410, I encountered one big problem—the screen would go blank. I tried using the alternate CD, but that just let me install Ubuntu but the GUI wouldn’t come up at all. Nothing did.

I figured I was in for big disappointment, but then did a quick Google and stumbled across this simple workaround:

* At install screen press F6 and select nomodeset and install Ubuntu as usual.

* On first boot after install, press e on getting the GRUB bootloader.

* Using arrow keys navigate to and delete quiet and splash and type the word nomodeset in their place

* Press Ctrl and X to boot

The workaround was so easy to implement, I was very surprised when it actually worked! Thanks to Ubuntu Geek for the Solution #1 suggestion!
