Low Cost Portable USB Drives
A colleague recently asked me, Where can I get a good deal for a portable USB drive so I can back up my data? Apparently, the local server had crashed and taken a lot of her data with it. To avoid that in the future, she wanted to make sure she could backup her work and not rely on others.
What would have been your suggestion for portable USB drives?
Here’s my response (dated 06/08/2011):
Note that some are at Walmart…which means you could walk in and pick it up with the model number. Just check the Walmart.com web site to find out which Walmart has it, or you can order online. Note the price difference between mail order and walmart.
I would recommend getting TWO drives and then backing up from one to the other. For example, get a 500 meg drive to carry around with you and then backup to your 1 Terabyte at home.
