MyNotes: Blocking Email Trackers

MyNotes, Privacy, TechTips

I love using these tracker blocker type extensions mentioned in MakeUseOf article, Your Inbox Is Full of Trackers: These 4 Extensions Block Them All by Yadullah Abidi.

My favorite is UglyEmail and the little red eyeball that pops up next to tracking emails. I usually delete those without reading after skimming the title. What a time-saver and privacy safeguard. What I like least about trackers is that somewhere, someone or some system is waiting to pounce when they see I have opened an email, triggering a cascade of unsolicited emails a la spam!

Five takeaways:

  • Hidden Trackers: Most emails have invisible pixels that snoop on you, telling senders when you’ve opened their message.
  • Gmail Fix: PixelBlock is an easy extension for Chrome browsers that automatically stops trackers within your Gmail.
  • Broader Choice: Ugly Email works on both Chrome and Firefox, adding an eyeball symbol to show which emails it has blocked trackers in.
  • All Inboxes: Trocker is a versatile extension that protects you from trackers across different webmail services like Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook.
  • Powerful Blockers: Tools you might already use for ads, like uBlock Origin, are also great at stopping the trackers hidden in your emails.
