A bad smell protects us against bad food. In our early evolution, we rejected bad smells and exhibit disgust when it is encountered (source). I feel the same way about advertising appearing in places I didn’t expect.

Even though I use AI for my work, I am disappointed to encounter ads in Google Workspace. That’s why I switched to Proton for my mail and storage (at a cost). I like to keep my tools as simple, focused as possible. Integration is nice sometimes, but…well, you know the old saying about free services and who’s the product.
